Creating an Account

Requesting an Account

In order to set you up with an account, we need to get a bit of information about you and your project. You can fill out our Project Request Form to get the process started. There are a few questions that are designed to get a sense of if your project fits in with our Terms of Service. If you don’t know the answers to all of those questions, that’s okay! Simply select “yes” when you are asked if you’d like a consultation with our team, and we can talk through any concerns.

It usually takes less than two business days for us to respond to new account requests. If you haven’t heard from us after a week, please reach out to lib-create@fsu.edu, and we will follow up on your request.

Choosing a domain name

Once you have heard back from our team that your account was approved, you will see that CreateFSU now gives you the option to choose a domain name.

Choosing your domain name is the first step in getting started with staking your claim on the web. Your domain name is a unique web address (e.g. projname.create.fsu.edu) that can be used to build out your own digital presence. As you make your choice, there are a few considerations to keep in mind:

Your Domain Name Must Be Available: Domain names must be unique, which means in order for you to claim your own, you need to be sure that it is currently available (and not being used by anyone else or any other project or department).

Choose a Domain You Can Live With: You should choose a domain name that you feel you can live with for quite some time. You should pick something that you won’t find embarrassing in the future. A good rule of thumb is to pick a domain that you would be comfortable putting on a future job application.

Pick a Domain that relates to your research project: Your domain should relate to the overall research project you are using CreateFSU for. This should not be a department or your personal name, but rather a short version of a project title or description.

Start building your site

Once you have completed the sign-up process, you will be redirected to your new website’s CPanel dashboard. This administrative interface is very powerful, but it also contains a lot of functionality that you may never need to use. If you’re new to building websites, we recommend installing an application to manage and publish your content. For information on installing applications, check out Installing your first application.
