What is DNS?

When you load a website like create.fsu.edu, you are calling up information from a server. Normally, your computer’s browser would use an IP address to find the location of a server. However, IP addresses are long sequences of characters that are not easy to read or memorize. DNS converts easy-to-read domain names into these hard-to-read IP addresses so you can more easily connect to content.

Normally, when building a CreateFSU site, you don’t need to worry about DNS. However, if you want to change your domain name to something that isn’t a subdomain of create.fsu.edu, you’ll need to use DNS.
