Force HTTPS Redirect

Background: What is HTTPS?

You may navigate to your site and notice that your site is listed as “not secure” near the URL bar. This does not necessarily mean that something is wrong with your site! When you navigate to your site, your computer needs to use a protocol to connect your browser to the server that runs your website. This protocol could either be secured through encryption or not. This is the difference between http:// (or “Hypertext Transfer Protocol”) and https:// (Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure).

You can use tools in your CreateFSU account to ensure that anyone who visits your site is redirected through the https:// protocol, which will ensure that your site always displays to your viewers as secure.

Force HTTPS Redirect

To ensure that your site always uses HTTPS, you simply need to navigate to your CreateFSU Dashboard. Select “Domains” (conveniently located in the “Domains” section of your CPanel Dashboard). Now you should see your domain listed, along with some information about that domain.

In the fourth column, you should see an option to toggle on/off “Force HTTPS” redirect. If you turn this on, a green “success” message should briefly pop up. Your site should now automatically redirect to https whenever someone visits your site.

If you are still being defaulted to HTTP, give it a few minutes and it should update. You can also clear out your browser cookies or try visiting it in a new browser to ensure that your browser’s history isn’t interfering with the redirect.
